The Society of Friends (Quakers) maintained very good records from the time they arrived in America. Marriages, deaths, transfers to other meetings as well as disciplines were carefully recorded.
The Watson Library of Wilmington College is one of four official repositories of Quaker records in North America and has microfilmed records of the Miami Monthly Meeting (Waynesville), of which the Springborough Monthly Meeting was subordinate. The records include minutes of the Men’s Meeting and minutes of the Women’s Meeting. In addition to the minutes, are an index of the marriage certificates, an index of deaths and an index of referrals, certificates to and from various meetings which provides an excellent record of Friends’ travels and migrations.

Below are some of the recently uncovered minutes for the Orthodox Springboro Monthly Meeting for “20th, 3rd month, 1855.” These were preserved in the archives of Joseph and Catherine Ann Stanton. The Friends were very active in re-copying information for wide dissemination, probably saving on the cost of printing. (These minutesare not easy to read, but the information on this front page of the handmade booklet are mostly about “housekeeping.” For a larger picture, click here.)
